Virtual desktops solve a specific set of problems well: contractors and offshore teams who must not hold data locally, regulated environments that need a controlled workspace, and graphics or data workloads too heavy for a laptop. They solve them badly when the images are unmanaged and the scaling policies are wrong.
NubesDesk covers both halves. We design the desktop estate — images, profiles, access, network paths, licensing — and then operate it, including the unglamorous parts: patch cycles, image rebuilds, capacity tuning and per-user cost reporting.
Only pixels leave the data centre. Clipboard, print and USB redirection are policy-controlled, which is what makes contractor and BYOD access defensible to auditors.

VDI describes the architecture — virtual desktops served from central infrastructure. DaaS means someone else runs that infrastructure as a subscription service. NubesDesk is delivered as a managed service on cloud-native platforms such as Amazon WorkSpaces and Azure Virtual Desktop, so you get the DaaS operating model with VDI-level control over images and policy.
The main drivers are instance size, hours of daily use, storage, licensing and whether the user needs a GPU. A knowledge worker on a scheduled eight-hour pattern costs a fraction of an always-on GPU desktop. We model per-user cost against your actual login patterns during design, because always-on assumptions are what make VDI projects look unaffordable.
Modern streaming protocols adapt to bandwidth and latency and generally perform acceptably from around 1.5 Mbps for office work. Latency matters more than bandwidth, so we place desktops in the region closest to users and near the data they access. We validate this during the pilot with your actual user locations.
That is a policy decision. Pooled desktops are typically locked down with applications delivered through the image or app layering, which keeps them consistent and cheap. Personal desktops can permit local installs where a role genuinely requires it, at the cost of more support surface.
Profiles and user data are stored separately from the desktop image, so a user gets their documents, settings and mapped drives back on any session even after the image is rebuilt or patched. That separation is what makes non-persistent desktops practical.
The data stays in the cloud environment rather than on a device that can be lost or stolen. Access requires identity verification and MFA, egress paths are controlled, patch level is enforced centrally, and revoking access removes it everywhere at once instead of relying on remote wipe.
